A motorcycle rider was airlifted with life-threatening injuries following a high-speed crash in Wisconsin on Saturday night.
According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, a Hillsboro police officer was conducting traffic enforcement around 10:30 p.m. when a motorcycle drove into the city limits at 74 mph. The rider passed another vehicle and continued at high speeds toward the city’s residential and business areas.
The officer turned on the emergency lights and siren, but lost sight of the motorcycle near the 800 block of Water Avenue.
A short time later, the officer discovered the crashed motorcycle in the parking lot of Emplify St. Joseph’s Hospital. The rider was found unresponsive in the parking lot. The officer notified the emergency room staff and began life-saving efforts with their help.
The operator was airlifted to a hospital in La Crosse with life-threatening injuries.
Due to the gravity of the accident, the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol’s Technical Reconstruction Unit are assisting with the investigation. The rider’s name has been withheld due to the severity of the injuries.
