IMPD: Man Posed as Officer with Fake Badge, Lights, and Gun outside Indy Club

IMPD Man Posed as Officer with Fake Badge, Lights, and Gun outside Indy Club

A former constable from Centre Township is currently incarcerated, facing serious felony charges for allegedly impersonating a public official.

Authorities launched an investigation after an IMPD officer observed the suspect engaged in security and traffic enforcement duties outside a nightclub operating beyond its permitted hours on West 10th Street.

The suspect reportedly asserted that his badge and ID were obtained from former Centre Township Constable Denise Hatch when questioned.

In 2023, Hatch faced a string of clashes with law enforcement, leading to multiple felony charges, including official misconduct. The courtroom drama reached its peak in late 2024, as Hatch faced the judge, ultimately pleading guilty and resigning from her position.

After eight months, Logan Harvey, a former constable, finds himself in hot water, now confronting felony charges for impersonating a public servant.

Authorities report that this month, Harvey was obstructing traffic at 10th and Livingston, utilising a vehicle fitted with law enforcement-style flashing lights.

Authorities report that the individual in question was reportedly donned in a police vest, equipped with handcuffs, a handgun, and a badge and ID from Centre Township.

Legal documents allege Harvey informed authorities that he was employed by Denise Hatch, despite not receiving payment for several months and being unaware of the requirement to return his badge or ID following her removal from office.

“You have to understand when somebody impersonates a law enforcement officer, that’s a breach of trust,” said IMPD Officer Drew Brown.

IMPD calls on all armed security personnel to verify that their credentials are current and valid, emphasising the seriousness of impersonating law enforcement due to the significant public safety concerns it presents.

“So if there’s ever any concern that someone stopping you is not a law enforcement officer, don’t be afraid to call 911 to verify that,” said Brown.

The present constable of Centre Township informed law enforcement that he asked for the return of badges and IDs from Hatch’s deputies upon assuming his position.

Records from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy reveal that Harvey lacks certification as a police officer.

A $10,000 bond has been set for the suspect, who is scheduled to appear in court for an initial hearing next week.
