A weekend outing turned tragic when a father and son were struck by lightning while playing golf at The Bridges Golf Course in Gunter, Texas, on Sunday, June 8.
The lightning strike occurred shortly after 5 p.m., amid powerful storms that swept through North Texas, bringing hurricane-force winds and intense lightning activity. The golf course, located about 50 miles north of Dallas, became the scene of a fatal accident as severe weather intensified across the region.
The son, a man in his 40s, was rushed to Celina Methodist Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. His father, in his 70s, was taken to Baylor McKinney Hospital, where he remains in critical condition, authorities said.
The Sunday evening storms battered the region, with reports of thousands of lightning strikes every five minutes. In Bonham, located in Fannin County, storm damage was extensive, including downed power lines, trees, and damage to homes and businesses.
Officials continue to urge residents to seek shelter during severe weather and remain indoors when lightning is present.
No further details have been released about the victims. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
