Las Vegas, NV – In a significant bust, federal officials apprehended an international traveler at Harry Reid International Airport, discovering over 100 pounds of ketamine concealed in her luggage, according to insights from the 8 News Now Investigators.
On June 5, Rubeen Grimes was taken into custody by special agents from Homeland Security Investigations on two federal drug charges, according to records.
Grimes touched down in Las Vegas after a flight from Germany, according to records. During her customs experience, Grimes seemed “visibly nervous,” prompting agents to inspect two of her suitcases. Agents conducted X-ray examinations of the suitcases, uncovering a sizable bag within each one.
Officials reported that a “white, crystal substance” found in two bags, totaling 112 pounds, has tested positive for ketamine. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration categorizes ketamine as an anesthetic street drug known for inducing “some hallucinogenic effects.”
Grimes reportedly informed agents that an individual in Belgium had “recruited” her to transport the suitcases from Germany to Las Vegas, according to the documents. The agreement would yield her 10,000 British pounds, equivalent to approximately $13,500.
Grimes informed authorities that she thought she was carrying marijuana.
As of Wednesday, the status of Grimes’ custody remains uncertain. On Monday, federal officials took action by filing a warrant for her arrest.
According to the DEA, an injectable version of ketamine is now available for doctors to treat depression.
