A truck driver has been apprehended near Las Vegas after allegedly researching methods to smuggle drugs across the border, with authorities discovering over 200 pounds of cocaine and heroin in his possession, according to court documents.

On May 9, authorities on Interstate 15 south of Las Vegas took Mark Delarge, 49, from Alberta, Canada, into custody after a traffic stop.

A detective initially pulled over Delarge, who was operating a semitruck in Jean, for allegedly speeding at around 75 mph in a work zone with a 55 mph limit, according to police reports. Documents reveal that the detective observed Delarge, who claimed to be heading back to Canada from California, exhibiting signs of nervousness as his hands were shaking.

Authorities reported that the detective requested a narcotics detection canine to inspect the truck. A canine companion led authorities to detect the presence of methamphetamine, heroin, and cocaine. Delarge subsequently acknowledged the presence of cocaine in the vehicle, according to the documents.

Authorities reported that Mark revealed he had performed an online search for ‘how to smuggle drugs across the border’ while journeying from Canada to Los Angeles. Mark started exploring various websites and ultimately reached out to someone on Facebook… Mark was then enlisted to collect cocaine from the Riverside area and bring it back to Canada.

Authorities discovered a staggering 201 pounds of cocaine and heroin concealed within the truck, according to reports.

A grand jury in Clark County has decided to indict Delarge on four charges related to drug trafficking, according to records. In a significant development during a grand jury return hearing, Clark County District Court Chief Judge Jerry Wiese has established bail at $250,000.

Delarge continues to be held in custody following his initial arrest.

He is set to make a formal plea in district court on June 16.
