Three Arrested for Breaking Into Albuquerque Fire Station, Stealing Firefighter's Truck

Court documents indicate that three individuals were apprehended on Monday for entering an Albuquerque fire station, stealing property, and hijacking the personal vehicle of a firefighter.

In court documents, Dakota Askins, Dora Payne, and Robert Barragan are accused of entering AFR Station 11 near San Mateo and Zuni by prying open a window and subsequently breaking through a security gate to depart in an employee’s truck.

AFR employees reported to the Albuquerque Police that all of their rooms had been looted, and numerous items were missing, such as the keys to seven vehicles, AFR apparel, and electronics. One employee reported that his iPad and personal vehicle were stolen.

APD was able to locate the firefighter’s truck and track the iPad to 901 First Street.

An officer observed that the driver of the truck was wearing an AFR hat, and a male and a woman were also seated in the vehicle.

Court documents indicate that detectives pursued the vehicle to 1821 Commercial St. NE, where they apprehended the driver, who was subsequently identified as Askins, and the two other passengers, Barragan and Payne.

The firefighter who owned the vehicle encountered officers at the site and retrieved all of the items that were transported to the station, with the exception of the keys to one vehicle. The firefighter also informed the police that the front end of his truck appeared to be damaged.

Askins, Payne, and Barragan were all charged with non-residential burglary, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, criminal damage to property, and conspiracy to commit non-residential burglary, according to court documents. They provided investigators with conflicting statements.
