Teen Driver dead, critical Passenger airlifted after wreck in Lee County

Lee County, IL – A 16-year-old girl was killed and a 20-year-old man critically injured Monday afternoon after their pickup truck was struck by a semi in a devastating crash in Lee County.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Chastity Stavenhagen of Earlville was driving westbound on Chicago Road around 2:21 p.m. when she pulled out onto Route 251. Authorities say her truck entered the path of an oncoming semi and was hit broadside.

Stavenhagen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her passenger, a 20-year-old man from West Brooklyn, sustained critical injuries. He was initially transported to OSF St. Paul Medical Center in Mendota before being airlifted to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.

The driver of the semi, a 62-year-old man from Sublette, was not injured.

The roadway remained closed for several hours as authorities investigated the crash. No charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing.
