Dorchester County, SC – A high-speed police pursuit involving a stolen vehicle took a tragic and unusual turn on Monday when the suspect struck and killed 12 geese while fleeing from deputies, the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
Authorities identified the suspect as 39-year-old Robert Bennie Jackson, who now faces multiple charges following the incident.
The situation began when the Summerville Police Department alerted Dorchester County deputies to a stolen vehicle believed to be in the area of Ladson Road and Dorchester Road, originating from Berkeley County.
Deputies located the stolen vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. However, Jackson allegedly refused to pull over, prompting a pursuit. During the chase, Jackson drove through an area where a flock of geese was gathered, striking and killing 12 of the birds, officials said.
The pursuit ended when Jackson exited the still-moving vehicle, causing it to crash into a neighborhood fence. He then attempted to flee on foot, trying twice to scale a fence before being apprehended by deputies.
Jackson is now facing multiple charges, including:
- Failure to Stop for Blue Lights
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- 12 Counts of Killing Waterfowl Out of Season
He remains in custody at the L.C. Knight Detention Center.
Authorities have not released additional details about the incident, but the investigation remains ongoing.
