Speeding SUV Flips after Collision with Car in Sparta, Injuring Two - Police

In a dramatic incident at a western Wisconsin intersection, an SUV collided with a car, resulting in the vehicle overturning and knocking down a traffic light. Two individuals were taken to the hospital following the crash.

On its Facebook page, the Sparta Police Department shared a photo of the crash and provided details about the incident that occurred at approximately 2:45 p.m. on Monday, June 9.

Emergency services arrived at the scene of the collision at the junction of East Wisconsin Street and South Water Street, where a westbound SUV collided with a vehicle turning left from Wisconsin onto Water Street. Authorities report that a 47-year-old was behind the wheel of the SUV, while an 85-year-old operated the car, with both individuals hailing from Sparta.

An initial inquiry by the officer revealed that the SUV’s high speed, coupled with abrupt braking, led to its overturning upon impact, resulting in the destruction of a traffic light.

Authorities observed that the vehicle was navigating a flashing yellow arrow while making the left turn.

“This is a good reminder that yellow lights mean you must yield to other traffic and pedestrians,” the Sparta PD Facebook post read.

Two individuals in the SUV were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The announcement lacked further information.
