In a bold move, St. Louis police targeted numerous vehicles overnight while addressing a late-night “stunt” driving event, reflecting their commitment to combat reckless driving.

Officers from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department successfully spiked approximately 40-50 vehicles that attempted to flee after the activation of emergency lights and sirens. The exact number of vehicles participating in stunt driving remains uncertain.

According to SLMPD, there have been no arrests made at this time, and there are no reports of any crashes or injuries.

Shortly after midnight on Saturday, law enforcement arrived at the scene following reports of reckless driving in the 6500 block of Manchester Avenue, situated in the Ellendale neighbourhood of the City. Upon their arrival, officers discovered multiple vehicles engaging in stunts within a parking lot, as reported by SLMPD.

As the offices drew near, the drivers dispersed, racing off in various directions. In a dramatic turn of events, authorities deployed spike strips to halt a multitude of escaping vehicles.

“The spiking of these fleeing vehicles sends a clear message — this reckless behavior is not welcome in St. Louis and we will continue to enforce the law,” said Mitch McCoy, SLMPD Director of Public Affairs and Information, in a statement.

A significant police presence was noted at the scene, featuring Mobile Reserve officers, the Anti-Crime Task Force, SWAT, and Drug Enforcement & Intervention units.

Following a series of weekend events, the SLMPD took action in response to multiple complaints regarding reckless driving, including incidents involving dirt bike groups, resulting in several arrests and the seizure of vehicles.
