San José Police Nab Suspects in Gang-Motivated Parking Lot Shooting

SAN JOSÉ, Calif. — The San José Police Department has arrested two suspects in connection with a gang-related shooting that occurred earlier this year in a busy shopping center parking lot.

The incident happened on February 8 around 12:15 p.m. at the 1300 block of South Winchester Boulevard. According to police, 20-year-old Jacobo Guzman-Flores and an 18-year-old male — who was considered a juvenile at the time — opened fire on two other men in the crowded parking lot.

Despite the broad daylight attack and the presence of numerous civilians, no injuries were reported. The victims managed to escape by getting into their vehicle and driving away.

Following the incident, the San José Police Department’s Gang Investigations Unit launched an investigation that led to the identification of both suspects. Arrest and search warrants were issued, and on June 11, Guzman-Flores was apprehended in Redwood City, while the juvenile suspect was taken into custody in San José.

During the execution of the search warrants at the suspects’ homes, investigators recovered several gang-related items, including a firearm with an altered serial number.

Both suspects now face multiple charges, including assault with a deadly weapon motivated by gang affiliation, illegal discharge of a firearm, and related firearm possession offenses.

Guzman-Flores was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail, while the juvenile was booked into the Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall.

Authorities urge anyone with additional information about the incident to contact Detective Guevara of the San José Police Department’s Gang Investigations Unit.
