Oakland police are urging rideshare drivers to be on high alert following a recent wave of robberies and attempted carjackings targeting drivers in the city.
According to the Oakland Police Department, three separate incidents have been reported in recent weeks, all occurring after 9 p.m. in the same area near 46th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard.
In each case, suspects used rideshare apps to request a pickup in the area. Once inside the vehicle, the suspects asked the driver to pull over before attempting to rob or carjack them, authorities said.
Two minors have been arrested in connection with the crimes, while a third suspect, also believed to be a minor, remains at large.
Police are reminding rideshare drivers to take extra safety precautions, including installing GPS trackers and dashboard cameras to help document any suspicious activity.
“If a rider requests an unexpected or unsafe stop, trust your instincts — drive to a well-lit, populated area and call 911 if necessary,” the department said in a statement.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
