Rich County, UT – A 27-year-old man was killed Saturday night after his motorcycle collided with a cow on state Route 39 in Rich County, authorities confirmed.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 10:02 p.m. near milepost 53 in the Monte Cristo area, around 14 miles west of Woodruff. According to a statement from the Rich County Sheriff’s Office, the impact caused the motorcycle to catch fire.
Emergency crews, including firefighters and medical personnel, responded quickly to the scene, but the rider was pronounced dead on site. The man was part of a group of motorcyclists traveling together at the time of the incident. His identity is currently being withheld pending family notification.
The circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation. The Utah Highway Patrol is taking the lead on the case.
Officials have not released further details about the cow involved in the incident or whether the animal’s owner has been identified.
