El Paso, TX – A man in his early 30s is in critical but stable condition after being shot by police Saturday evening during a response to a family violence call in El Paso’s Lower Valley, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 7:40 p.m. at a residence on the 9500 block of North Loop. According to a spokesperson for the El Paso Police Department, officers arrived at the home in response to a domestic disturbance report.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with individuals at the scene when the suspect allegedly drew a knife and approached them. One officer responded by firing their service weapon, striking the man.

Emergency medical personnel transported the man to a local hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition, officials said.

The El Paso Police Department’s Internal Affairs unit and the Texas Rangers have launched investigations into the shooting, which is standard protocol in officer-involved incidents.

No officers were reported injured during the confrontation, and the suspect has not yet been publicly identified.

Authorities have not released further details at this time.
