Man found Guilty, Sentenced to Death for Capital Murder of Texas Peace Officer

Houston, TX — A Texas jury has sentenced Oscar Rosales to death for the 2022 murder of Harris County Precinct 5 Corporal Charles “Chuck” Galloway, a 12-year veteran of law enforcement known for his dedication to community service.

Rosales, 55, was convicted earlier this month of capital murder for fatally shooting Corporal Galloway during a routine traffic stop in southwest Houston in January 2022. Following a nationwide manhunt, Rosales was captured in Mexico on January 26, just three days after the shooting.

Prosecutors said Rosales opened fire on Galloway with an assault-style rifle after being pulled over, killing him at the scene. The brutal ambush was captured on dashcam video and sparked outrage across the region.

During the trial, jurors heard emotional testimony from colleagues, friends, and community members who described Galloway as a kind and selfless public servant. A gas station clerk who had known Galloway since 2011 told the court about their friendship and recalled how the officer would frequently stop by and lend a helping hand to those in need.

The death sentence brings a measure of closure to Galloway’s family and the law enforcement community still grieving the loss of a respected and beloved deputy.

Rosales will be held on death row pending automatic appeals, as required in capital cases.
