Man Dead, 2 Houston Officers injured in separate but linked Overnight Incidents

Just after midnight on Saturday, two related occurrences occurred in northeast Houston, resulting in the death of a man and the recovery of two Houston police officers.

Officers were initially dispatched to the 7300 block of Bigwood Drive at approximately 12 a.m. due to reports of a disturbance and a potential stabbing, according to HPD. Patrol units discovered a man in his late 30s who had sustained multiple chest stab wounds.

According to investigators, the stabbing occurred subsequent to a dispute between two family members. According to reports, the two temporarily parted ways before getting into another altercation in which the victim was stabbed. The suspect, a guy in his mid-fifties, was arrested after remaining on the site. After being taken to the hospital, the victim was declared dead.

The Homicide Division of the Houston Police Department is currently responsible for conducting the investigation.

Just a few blocks from the first report, two HPD officers were engaged in a serious collision on Homestead close to the 6700 block while responding to the Bigwood stabbing.

According to the police, another car hit their patrol SUV while the cops were heading north with their emergency lights on. Investigators think the suspect’s car might have pulled off of a side street or parking lot close by. The patrol unit caught fire after the impact.

After seeing the collision, a nearby wrecker driver hurried to assist, removing both policemen from the flaming car. The cops were brought to the hospital with minor injuries and are expected to recover. Each officer has been with the department for around a year.

The police were on their way to help with the Bigwood call, where it was first thought the suspect might still be there, according to HPD Lt. Ali.

The collision is being looked into by the Vehicular Crimes Division. Investigators claim they have identifying information and are trying to find the driver who struck the police unit, despite the fact that the driver fled the scene.
