A man has been arrested following a shooting that left a 9-year-old boy in critical condition in Troy, according to authorities.
Zanious Terell Murphy was taken into custody on Thursday, June 5, and charged with unsafe firearm storage causing serious injury to a minor. The charge stems from an incident on Friday, May 30, when Troy police responded to a home near Crooks Road and Muer Street around 4:12 p.m.
Officers arriving at the scene found the 9-year-old boy bleeding from the head. The child was immediately transported to a Metro Detroit hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. He remains in critical condition, officials said.
Investigators recovered a firearm from inside the residence. According to police, Murphy and the boy were not related but lived in the same home.
Murphy was arraigned at 52-4 District Court, where bond was set at $30,000, cash surety only.
The case remains under investigation as authorities work to determine how the shooting occurred.
