Hartford, CT — A 24-year-old Hartford man is facing seven charges after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop and driving recklessly along Interstate 84, according to Connecticut State Police.
The incident occurred on June 14 around 10:50 p.m. when a Troop H patrol officer spotted a Hyundai Elantra traveling eastbound on I-84 near Exit 58 in East Hartford. The vehicle, driven by Ryan Williams, was allegedly swerving across all three lanes and clocked at speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour.
When the trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Williams reportedly exited the highway onto Roberts Street. Police say the vehicle nearly collided with other cars at the intersection of Brookside Lane, prompting troopers to disengage from the pursuit due to safety concerns. However, officers were able to obtain the vehicle’s registration information.
Police later visited the registered owner’s address in Manchester. A family member confirmed the owner’s cooperation, and it was determined that the owner was not driving the car during the incident but agreed to meet at the State Police Troop H headquarters.
Williams arrived at Troop H with the vehicle’s owner around 12:18 a.m. and admitted to being the driver during the incident. Police also learned Williams was operating the vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
Williams was arrested and charged with engaging in a police pursuit, reckless driving, disobeying the signal of an officer, improper passing, failure to drive in the proper lane on a limited-access highway, operating a motor vehicle without a license, and interfering with an officer or resisting.
He was processed and released on a $2,500 bond. Williams is scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court on July 11.
