A tragic incident unfolded in Knoxville, where a woman reportedly drove her minivan into an assisted living facility, resulting in the death of a patient, according to police reports.
In a shocking turn of events, 24-year-old Eleasah Williams was taken into custody on Saturday afternoon, facing serious charges of vehicular homicide with recklessness. A $75,000 bond has led to her booking at the Knox County Jail.
Early Saturday morning, a crash occurred. At around 5:15 a.m., officers from the Knoxville Police Department arrived at the Shannondale Assisted Living Facility located at 7350 Middlebrook Pike following reports of a crash. A vehicle has reportedly smashed into a room, tragically taking the life of the occupant, identified as 96-year-old Walter Humphrey, according to police reports.
A striking image captures the minivan fully embedded within the building, having obliterated the brick wall and displaced everything in its path. Evidence suggests the vehicle may have taken flight before crashing into the wall, as no skid marks were found on the nearby grass.
Authorities report that the individual, believed to be Williams, was extracted from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening. Following her release, she was taken into custody at the county jail.
Documents from the court unveil the chilling events that preceded the accident.
Authorities responded to a report from an apartment complex regarding a domestic situation, with a caller indicating that Williams was experiencing severe distress, expressing intentions to harm herself and others, as detailed in documents.
Williams eventually confessed to using multiple prescription drugs and inhaling a THC vape prior to driving at an excessively high speed, with intentions of ending his life, according to the documents that surfaced.
Authorities reported that the driver seemingly accelerated from an apartment complex on Woodview Lane, crossing four lanes of Middlebrook Pike and crashing directly into a bedroom of the assisted living facility.
