A 38-year-old man in Thurston County jail is now facing additional charges after allegedly transforming a plastic spoon into a weapon and utilising a blanket and mattress for protection, according to Sheriff Derek Sanders.
Images reveal that the handle of a spoon was transformed into a knife point, which Sanders described as a “shank.” The individual had ripped apart “their blanket and mattress to fashion a shield, then repeatedly shouted ‘let’s go’ at Corrections Deputies,” Sanders noted in a social media update on Friday.
“Deputies formed a cell-entry team and gave pepper-spray warnings, at which point the inmate surrendered,” Sanders wrote. “The items have been confiscated.”

A recent report reveals that the individual was initially detained in October on charges including first-degree attempted murder, armed first-degree assault, domestic violence-related first-degree assault, and resisting arrest.
Charges of possession and displaying a weapon have now been added, as indicated by jail records.
