Intoxicated Murray Man Charged after Violent Altercation with Neighbor

A man from Murray faces assault charges following an incident where he reportedly pounded on his neighbor’s door and allegedly attacked him when he stepped outside.

Bryan M Barrios, 31, faces serious charges including felony aggravated assault, misdemeanour assault, making threats of violence, property damage, and public intoxication.

On the evening of May 21, 2025, shortly before 9 p.m., a police officer from Murray City responded to reports of a disturbance in the vicinity of Regal Street. Upon the officer’s arrival, a crowd gathered outside, directing attention to a man they claimed had assaulted them.

A victim was found with multiple injuries, including bleeding and a noticeable red mark along with an abrasion on the neck, as detailed in the officer’s arrest statement. A resident reported to authorities that his neighbour, Barrios, had started pounding on his door with such force that it caused damage to the doorframe.

As the victim answered the door, reports indicate that Barrios erupted in a fit of rage, launching a physical assault against him. The victim remembered Barrios threatening, “I’m going to f– kill you!” while tightening his grip around his neck in an attempt to strangle him.

Documents reveal that surveillance footage captured the moment Barrios allegedly tried to strangle the victim, leading to the latter collapsing to the ground. In a dramatic turn of events, Barrios launched a second attempt to strangle the victim. However, the victim displayed remarkable resilience, successfully pinning Barrios’ arms to his chest and thwarting the physical assault.

According to the officer who detained Barrios, there was a noticeable scent of alcohol, and he seemed to be under the influence. Barrios has been taken into custody and processed at the Salt Lake County Jail, facing charges from the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office as of June 6.
