High-Speed Pursuit Ends in Serious Crash in Monroe County, Multiple Critical

Monroe County, MI — A serious crash that followed a high-speed pursuit has left several people in critical condition in Monroe County.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:27 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, at the intersection of S. Dixie Highway and Luna Pier Road in Erie Township.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began when Erie Township police conducted a traffic stop on a white 2013 Ford Focus near Suder Road and Dean Road for careless driving. As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver fled the scene, prompting a pursuit.

The pursuit was quickly terminated by the officer due to the suspect’s reckless driving. However, shortly afterward, the same white 2013 Ford Focus was spotted traveling northbound on S. Dixie Highway.

As the vehicle entered the intersection of Luna Pier Road, police say the driver disregarded a red traffic signal and collided with a gray 2012 Ford Focus that was traveling westbound on Luna Pier Road.

Authorities confirmed that four occupants were inside the white Ford Focus, while two individuals were in the gray Ford. Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash. Alcohol involvement has not yet been determined.

Both drivers and all passengers were transported to hospitals in the Toledo area, where they remain in critical condition. Officials also confirmed that airbags in both vehicles deployed, though seat belt use is currently unknown.

The crash remains under investigation by Lieutenant Brian Quinn and deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division.
