Heat Dome to scorch over 30 States as Summer kicks off with Record Temps

With summer officially upon us, temperatures are set to soar, raising alarms about the potential for extreme heat in the coming week.

A massive high-pressure system, often referred to as a heat dome, is establishing itself over the U.S. as summer kicks off, poised to subject over 30 states to intense heat.

Heat warnings are issued throughout the Plains as we head into the weekend.

Starting Friday, regions including Denver are set to experience soaring temperatures, reaching over 100 degrees, as reported by the FOX Forecast Centre.

By Sunday, over 200 million Americans are expected to experience temperatures reaching or exceeding 90 degrees. Sweltering nights persist as high humidity fails to provide respite from the scorching daytime heat.

Next week, brace for the heat wave to reach its maximum intensity and impact as a powerful ridge of high pressure takes hold over the East. Unprecedented June heat is set to sweep across the North-east, with temperatures reaching extraordinary highs.

New York City and Philadelphia are set to approach the 100-degree mark by Monday, marking an unusual event for June.

Historic daily high temperature records from the 19th century are poised to be shattered in New York City, Pittsburgh, and Trenton, New Jersey.

Extreme temperatures were highlighted on the National Weather Service’s HeatRisk map, affecting multiple states on Monday and Tuesday.

The HeatRisk map highlights the most perilous heat levels as “extreme.” The NWS reports that this unprecedented and prolonged extreme heat, coupled with minimal overnight relief, poses a significant risk to individuals lacking proper cooling and sufficient hydration.

“You don’t see the extreme color painted on a map like this that often,” said FOX Weather Meteorologist Stephen Morgan. “So to see almost entire states under that extreme risk, it’s the real deal.”

Relief is on the way for many regions as Wednesday brings a return to more typical June temperatures, signalling an end to the recent heatwave.
