Ex-Orleans Sheriff’s Worker Arrested for allegedly aiding escape of Boyfriend

In a significant development, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill has revealed the arrest of a former employee from the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office (OPSO). This individual is reportedly linked to Derrick Groves, who remains at large.

Murrill revealed in a press release that 28-year-old Darriana Burton, a former OPSO employee, was taken into custody on Monday for allegedly assisting Derrick Groves in his escape from the facility. Authorities suspect that Burton is in a romantic relationship with Groves.

An arrest warrant for Burton was issued on May 27, citing a charge of conspiracy related to a simple escape.

On Monday, authorities apprehended her in New Orleans, with the United States Marshals Service leading the operation. A recent affidavit reveals that the woman is accused of facilitating communication between Groves and outside individuals, sharing details pertinent to the escape.

Murrill’s office reported that officials have verified the couple’s “again, off-again relationship” spanning three years, and they are thought to be dating at present.

Burton served at the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office from August 2022 to March 2023. In the year 2023, as reported by Murrill. In a recent development, authorities confirmed the arrest of an individual in 2023 on allegations of introducing contraband into a correctional facility and engaging in malfeasance. However, the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office declined to pursue these charges.

“We will continue to pursue anyone and everyone who has aided and abetted these criminals. We will find you, arrest you, and prosecute you to the full extent of the law. I’d like to thank the US Marshals Service for executing our warrant for this woman. We will arrest all aiders and abettors, and we will eventually get Antoine Massey and Derrick Groves back to prison where they belong,” Murrill said.

Groves and Antoine Massey are still on the run.
