Escondido man gets 15 years for Fentanyl sale that killed 25-year-old woman

A man involved in the sale of fentanyl that resulted in a woman’s death in Escondido received a sentence of 15 years and eight months in prison on Monday.

Danny Nunez, 25, pleaded guilty to federal charges this year linked to the tragic overdose of a 25-year-old victim.

According to prosecutors, the individual known as “L.P.” in court documents passed away on September 11, 2024, and her parents discovered her body in her bedroom the next day.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, investigators were able to pinpoint Nunez as the individual who supplied drugs to the victim, thanks to cell phone evidence and witness testimonies.

In a recent federal court filing, a criminal complaint reveals that detectives from the Escondido Police Department impersonated L.P. in communications with Nunez, enquiring about purchasing additional fentanyl. Nunez was taken into custody while departing his residence to meet with a buyer, found in possession of two baggies filled with fentanyl, as stated in the complaint.

A sentencing memorandum from defence attorney Holly Sullivan characterised L.P.’s death as “truly tragic,” noting that “Both Mr. Nunez and his family have expressed their condolences to L.P.’s family. Mr. Nunez never intended any of this to happen and deeply regrets his involvement.”
