Authorities in Mexico have launched an investigation following the fatal shooting of a man from Yuma who crossed into Sonora earlier this week.
Officials report that the shooting occurred on Monday along Avenida Internacional, situated between Calle 5 and Calle 6, close to the commercial area of San Luis Rio Colorado.
Authorities in Sonora have confirmed the identity of the victim as 30-year-old Marco Antonio “N,” a Yuma resident with a background in arms trafficking within the United States. According to the Sonoran Attorney General’s Office, he has been on parole since September 2023.
In a tragic incident, a victim was reportedly in a dark gray Jeep Cherokee SUV attempting to cross back into the United States when multiple armed suspects opened fire, resulting in his death.
Authorities have reported the recovery of 14 9mm shell cases from the incident scene, while prosecutors confirm that a 1 ½-year-old child was discovered unharmed within the SUV.
Multiple law enforcement agencies are currently probing the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident.
