Brush fire along I-15 in Willard temporarily shuts down Southbound lanes

On Wednesday morning, a brush fire broke out along I-15 in Willard, temporarily closing two southbound lanes of traffic and releasing smoke and flames into the air.

Around 8:20 a.m., the Utah Department of Transportation reported that dry roadside vegetation near milepost 356 caught fire.

Trooper Louis Silva of the Utah Highway Patrol reported that a truck’s trailer lost a tire. A fire was started when the tire slid off the right shoulder and into the brush.

Within almost an hour, crews were able to contain and put out the fire thanks to their prompt action.

Two southbound lanes on I-15 were temporarily closed due to the fire. There were no reported injuries.

The incident coincides with persistent worries about fire danger throughout Utah, as the state’s hot and dry weather has made wildfires more likely.
