Taunton, MA — A high-speed police pursuit in southern Massachusetts ended in a serious crash Sunday, sending five people to the hospital.

According to the Massachusetts State Police, the incident began when troopers spotted a white BMW X5 speeding southbound on Route 24 at over 100 miles per hour. When a trooper attempted a traffic stop, the driver refused to pull over and instead accelerated, reaching speeds of approximately 130 miles per hour.

The pursuit continued until the driver lost control of the vehicle in Taunton, where it crashed. Emergency crews quickly responded to the scene and provided medical assistance to all five occupants of the vehicle. They were transported to nearby hospitals and are reported to be in stable condition.

State police say the investigation is ongoing, and criminal charges against those involved are expected to be announced at a later date.

Authorities are reminding the public that fleeing law enforcement at high speeds poses significant dangers to everyone on the road, including innocent bystanders.
