According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, a man who was armed sustained severe injuries as a result of a police shooting during an investigation into a carjacking.
According to authorities, the armed suspect was accosted by law enforcement on Porete Avenue in North Arlington shortly before 5 p.m. in connection with an armed carjacking investigation that originated in Kearny, New Jersey.
According to officials, the male was shot by police, although it was not immediately apparent what may have transpired moments prior.
The individual was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries; however, he has since been released and is currently in police custody.
The sister of an Uber driver who was nearly killed in a terrifying confrontation with a passenger armed with a gun spoke with PIX11 News on Saturday.
“Thank God he’s alive. That’s all that really matters,” the sister of the Uber driver said.
The sister stated that the Uber driver reported to the police that a passenger entered his vehicle in the vicinity of Skyler Avenue and Route Seven in North Arlington and appeared to be agitated. According to the driver, the passenger disclosed that his fiancée had evicted him from her residence.
According to the driver’s sister, the Uber driver reported that he heard the passenger loading bullets into his gun before firing a single shot that narrowly missed the driver’s head as the rider proceeded.
“I don’t know if he intentionally was trying to shoot my brother, but he missed him just by three or 4 centimeters,” the driver’s sister said.
According to the sister, the driver subsequently exited the vehicle, which the suspect fled in.
The incident’s specifics are still being investigated by the authorities.
