Colorado Springs, CO – A two-vehicle crash in southeast Colorado Springs on Sunday afternoon led to the arrest of a juvenile who was reportedly armed and on parole, according to local police.
The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to the crash at the intersection of South Circle Drive and Monterey Road just before 5 p.m. When officers arrived, they discovered that one of the vehicles involved in the crash had been reported stolen.
Witnesses told police they saw the suspect fleeing the scene on foot. Several bystanders followed the suspect and directed responding officers to the suspect’s hiding location, police said. This led to a brief foot chase before the suspect was taken into custody.
Authorities confirmed the suspect is a minor under the age of 18 and was on juvenile parole at the time of the incident. Police also found the juvenile in possession of a handgun equipped with an illegal extended magazine.
Minor injuries were reported among those involved in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
