ORLANDO, Fla. — An Orange County middle school teacher is facing serious criminal charges after being accused of statutory rape and other sexual offenses involving a student, according to court records.
Authorities say 32-year-old Sarah Jacas, a math teacher at Corner Lake Middle School in Orlando, was arrested by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in connection with alleged incidents that took place between December 2022 and April 2023.
According to an affidavit for arrest, Jacas and the student initially communicated via text messages. After the boy’s parents discovered the interaction, the pair allegedly switched to Instagram and used coded language to conceal their conversations. Investigators say Jacas instructed the victim to delete their messages to avoid detection.
The affidavit also claims that at least one sexual encounter occurred during the school’s lunch period. During the time of the alleged offenses, the two also communicated through Canvas, the school’s online learning platform.
Detectives say Jacas created a fake Instagram account with the handle “bobthebuilder115520” to communicate with the victim. The numbers reportedly had hidden meanings — “115” stood for “I miss you” and “520” for “I love you.” Investigators say the pair also used symbols like a “high five” emoji to represent a kiss.
Orange County Clerk of Courts records show that Jacas faces multiple charges, including statutory rape by an authority figure, lewd or lascivious battery by a custodial authority, and lewd or lascivious molestation by a custodial figure.
Orange County Public Schools confirmed that Jacas is a 10-month employee and is not currently working during the summer break.
News 6 reporters confronted Jacas after she posted bond on Wednesday. As she left the jail, Jacas covered her head with a shirt and walked silently toward a waiting vehicle, declining to answer questions about the case.
The investigation is ongoing.
