HOUSTON — A man is in custody after allegedly posing as a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent to carry out a robbery in west Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.
Authorities say 37-year-old Guilano Christopher Thomson blocked another driver with his vehicle on Skyline Drive near Westchase earlier this week. Thomson allegedly identified himself as an ICE agent, appeared to display a badge, and stole an undisclosed amount of money from the victim.
Houston police tracked Thomson to a home on Wichita Street near Brays Bayou Tuesday night, where he was taken into custody without incident.
An ICE spokesperson condemned the impersonation, calling it both dangerous and illegal. The statement is below.
“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and agents are highly trained and dedicated professionals who are sworn to uphold the law, protect the American people and support U.S. national security interests. ICE strongly condemns the impersonation of its officers or agents. This action is not only dangerous, but illegal. Imposters can be charged with various criminal offenses both at the state/local level, as well as federally (under 18 USC 912).”
Thomson is facing charges of robbery and impersonating a public servant. The investigation is ongoing and being handled by the Houston Police Department’s Major Offenders Division, which specializes in impersonation cases.
No further details have been released at this time.
