MARINETTE COUNTY, Wis. — A traffic stop in Marinette County early Wednesday morning turned fatal after a person allegedly ingested an unknown substance and later died, according to the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight at the intersection of County Road B and Poplar Ridge Lane in the town of Grover. Deputies say they observed the driver ingesting a substance as they approached the vehicle.
The individual was taken into custody but became unresponsive a short time later. Emergency medical services were called to the scene, and life-saving measures were attempted. Despite those efforts, the person was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Authorities have not released any additional details regarding the identity of the individual or the nature of the substance involved. The incident remains under investigation.
