Former St. Mary Parish Teacher Arrested for Alleged Inappropriate Relationship with Student

A former educator with the St. Mary Parish School Board has been arrested following allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a student, authorities announced.

Katherine Ramerez Alberado, 30, was taken into custody after an investigation revealed evidence of a relationship with a former student that reportedly began while the student was still enrolled and underage.

According to the Morgan City Police Department, officials were first alerted to the alleged misconduct after the St. Mary Parish School Board received a report regarding Alberado. The educator was immediately placed on administrative leave and later resigned from her position.

Investigators uncovered evidence supporting the allegations, leading to arrest warrants being issued for Alberado. She was located at her residence and transported to the Morgan City Police Department, where she was booked and is awaiting judicial proceedings.

The school district has condemned the alleged actions, emphasizing its commitment to student safety.

“The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority, and any allegation involving misconduct by an educator is deeply troubling,” said Buffy Fegenbush, Superintendent of St. Mary Parish Public Schools. “This type of behavior does not reflect the values or policies of St. Mary Parish Public Schools, and we do not condone such conduct in any way. We are grateful to the Morgan City Police Department for their immediate, professional response, and we remain committed to protecting our students and upholding the highest standards for those who serve in our schools.”

The investigation remains active, and authorities urge anyone with information related to the case to contact the Morgan City Police Department Investigations Division.
