A tragic incident occurred early Wednesday morning on I-95 near Walterboro, resulting in the death of a teenager, as reported by Colleton County Fire Rescue.
A Florida couple on the interstate witnessed a speeding Honda veer off the road and collide with a tree at approximately 2:45 a.m.
Fire-rescue officials reported that the vehicle sustained extensive damage, with the tree penetrating the car all the way to the rear seats, leaving the driver trapped inside.
Following the shocking incident, the couple quickly dialed 911 and bravely tried to rescue the driver from the burning vehicle.
A deputy rushed to the scene of the burning vehicle, attempting to assist the couple in rescuing the driver, but the intense flames forced them back.
Authorities reported that the individual, thought to be an 18-year-old from Florida, lost their life in the accident. Rescue teams labored for half an hour to free the individual, yet the youth was found to be “heavily entrapped in the wreckage.”
