Police apprehended one adolescent and are still looking for two other electric bicycle riders who attempted to flee from officers in Huntington Beach Monday night, according to officials.
“Yesterday, an officer on proactive patrol spotted three juveniles riding Sur-Rons (off-highway electric motorcycles) committing multiple traffic violations,” the Huntington Beach Police Department wrote in a Facebook post Tuesday.
When the officer attempted to stop them, the three riders escaped, continuing to race through stop signs and ride recklessly through traffic, according to authorities.
The officer opted to switch to tracking mode and summon HB-1, also known as “the eye in the sky,” due to the riders’ “reckless riding and putting themselves and everyone at risk.”
The group dispersed, but officers were able to locate one of the kids hiding in a yard with the help of a witness.
The anonymous rider was cited for many offenses before being released to their parents. The kid has a court date for felony evasion and has had the Sur-Ron impounded for 30 days.
The inquiry is still ongoing as police strive to identify the remaining two passengers.
