34-year-old Arrested after Multiple Hit-and-Runs and Police Chase in Gurnee

A 34-year-old Gurnee man is currently in custody following a series of hit-and-run collisions and a police pursuit on Tuesday evening, which resulted in the injuries of multiple individuals, including two children.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported that dispatchers received a call just before 6 p.m. regarding a hit-and-run incident in the 36000 block of Grandwood Drive in unincorporated Gurnee, where the incident occurred near a fuelling station. Police were informed by witnesses that the suspect had struck a vehicle and fled the scene.

The same motorist is reported to have crashed into a second vehicle in the gas station parking lot a short time later before fleeing once more, according to authorities. The suspect was driving “erratically” and appeared to be haemorrhaging, according to witnesses.

The suspect’s vehicle was located by a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy, who then attempted to conduct a traffic stop. After failing to comply, the motorist initiated a pursuit.

At the intersection of Stearns Road and Hunt Club Road, the suspect collided with two vehicles, resulting in minor injuries to one of the drivers.

The pursuit proceeded eastward and then southward on Route 21. The perpetrator is alleged to have t-boned a vehicle that was making a left turn at the intersection of Route 21 and Gauges Lake Road, according to the police. Non-life-threatening injuries were sustained by four individuals in the vehicle, two of whom were children.

Subsequently, the suspect collided with another vehicle travelling north, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries to another driver.

The pursuit concluded when a constable employed their patrol car to disable the suspect’s vehicle.

The suspect was apprehended and transported to a nearby hospital. The investigation is ongoing, and charges against him are currently pending.
