Okaloosa County, FL — A Florida man was arrested Saturday night after he allegedly drove the wrong way down a street with no headlights and nearly collided with a patrol car, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say 33-year-old Michael Singletary was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Calhoun Avenue around 11 p.m. on June 14, without his vehicle’s lights on, when he narrowly missed hitting a deputy’s patrol car head-on.
The deputy immediately attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but Singletary reportedly refused to pull over. Additional deputies were called to assist, and Singletary eventually brought his vehicle to a stop.
However, officials say the situation escalated when Singletary allegedly refused to exit the vehicle, prompting deputies to forcibly remove him.
A search of the car revealed an empty bottle of whiskey and more than an ounce of marijuana, authorities said.
Singletary was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
