Baldwin County Man faces Murder Charges following Saturday Night Assault and Police Chase

A Fairhope man is charged with murder and attempted murder following an incident in Baldwin County on Saturday night.

According to a Sheriff’s Office news release, deputies responded to a home on Dominion Drive, outside Fairhope’s city lines, around 11 p.m. on Saturday.

Two residents of the home were seriously injured and airlifted to a hospital in Pensacola. One person died, while another is undergoing treatment. According to deputies, the suspect is Ryan Smith, 38. He exited the house before the deputies arrived.

According to the news release, deputies observed Smith’s vehicle on I-65 in North Baldwin County. This led them on a chase across Escambia County, Alabama. Deputies stopped Smith by utilizing the Grappler system on their vehicle’s front bumper.

Smith is being incarcerated at the Baldwin County Jail. The victims’ identities were not disclosed in the news announcement. A deputy said they will not release the cause of death until after an autopsy, but they do not believe the victims were shot.

Deputies have not stated what connection Smith may have.
