Chicago, IL – A serious car crash on Chicago’s Northwest Side Saturday night left three girls injured, including one in critical condition, and resulted in the arrest of an SUV driver, authorities said.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the collision occurred around the 1000 block of North Western Avenue in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.
Investigators say a 34-year-old man was driving a Lexus SUV southbound on Western Avenue when he struck a Lexus sedan heading eastbound on Thomas Street. After the initial impact, the SUV continued forward and hit two parked, unoccupied vehicles.
Inside the SUV were three individuals: the driver, a 13-year-old girl, and a 9-year-old girl. The driver suffered bruising, while the 13-year-old sustained facial cuts and was transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition. The 9-year-old girl suffered multiple fractures to her head, face, and arm and was taken to Humboldt Park Health in critical condition.
An 11-year-old girl riding in the Lexus sedan received minor head injuries and was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital, where she was reported in good condition.
The SUV driver, whose name has not been released, was arrested and issued nine citations. Police stated that additional charges are pending. The driver of the sedan was also cited for one unspecified violation.
The Chicago Police Department’s Major Accidents Unit is leading the investigation.
