Tavares, FL – A tragic discovery was made Tuesday after police responded to a well-being check at a home on Landing View, where a 70-year-old man and a 72-year-old woman were found dead from gunshot wounds in what authorities are now calling a likely murder-suicide.
Tavares police identified the deceased as Randy Rice, 70, and Karen Knight, 72, a married couple. Officers found a gun in Rice’s hand at the scene, leading investigators to believe he may have shot Knight before turning the weapon on himself.
“Based on the preliminary investigation and physical evidence, detectives believe this to be an isolated incident and are investigating it as a likely murder-suicide,” the department said in a statement Thursday.
Police noted there is no ongoing threat to the community and confirmed there had been no previous emergency calls to the couple’s residence.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to piece together the events leading up to the fatal incident.
