Former Cowboys Cornerback Kelvin Joseph released on Bond after Fatal Texas Crash

Richardson, TX – Former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Kelvin Joseph, 25, has been released from jail on bond following his arrest in connection with a fatal collision in Plano, Texas, that killed a female motorcyclist.

Joseph is facing charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI) and collision involving personal injury or death, according to the Richardson Police Department.

Authorities responded to the scene in the 2400 block of U.S. 75 around 4:50 a.m. on an unspecified date. There, they discovered the deceased body of 27-year-old Cody Morris. No other vehicles or individuals were found in the vicinity at the time.

Police officials stated that approximately an hour after the crash, Joseph contacted the department, reporting his involvement in the collision. Upon officers’ arrival at his location, they “observed signs of intoxication,” leading to his arrest.

Joseph’s bail was set at $1,000 for the DWI charge and $25,000 for the collision involving death charge. He was released on bond on Sunday.

It is believed that Joseph was traveling northbound in a BMW when he allegedly struck Morris, who CBS News reports was a mother of two children and a wife.

Kelvin Joseph was a second-round pick for the Dallas Cowboys in the 2021 NFL Draft, playing two seasons with the team. In 2022, he was briefly named a person of interest in connection with a fatal nightclub shooting in Lower Greenville, Dallas, but was later cleared after police arrested two other suspects. In 2023, he was traded to the Miami Dolphins and subsequently played for other teams, including the Kansas City Chiefs. Most recently, in February 2025, he signed with the DC Defenders in the United Football League.

The investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing.
