A 39-year-old man from Long Beach has been apprehended by the Santa Monica police in connection with the attempted sexual assault of an 84-year-old woman.
According to a press release issued by the police department, the incident took place at approximately 9:30 p.m. on June 5 near the intersection of 6th Street and Wilshire Boulevard.
Officers responded to reports of a woman screaming and discovered the victim, a Santa Monica resident, who appeared to be “in distress.”
The victim reported that a male suspect approached her from behind and grabbed her. The suspect then dragged her into a nearby alley and attempted to sexually assault her, according to the police.
The victim’s account was corroborated by numerous witnesses, who also observed the suspect fleeing the scene. The suspect, identified as Pape Tall, was apprehended by the police in the vicinity of 5th Street and California Avenue.
Tall was charged with felony offences by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, including assault with intent to commit rape, kidnapping with intent to commit rape, and violation of probation. His court date is July 9.
