A Brooklyn man has been arrested following a violent attack on a young woman inside a New York City subway station last weekend, authorities said.
According to the NYPD, the incident took place around 12:10 a.m. on June 22 at the Chauncey Street subway station in Brooklyn. Police say a 26-year-old woman was walking down the staircase of the station when an unknown individual approached her, slashed her on the chin, and punched her several times.
The suspect then fled the scene, stealing the woman’s cellphone, debit card, an undisclosed amount of cash, and headphones, officials said.
Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center for treatment. Her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
Following an investigation, authorities identified 54-year-old Lewis Doctor, of Brooklyn, as the suspect. Doctor was taken into custody on Wednesday morning and charged with robbery.
The NYPD continues to investigate the incident.
