19-year-old Suspect Arrested after woman fatally shot in Costa Mesa

Costa Mesa, CA — A 19-year-old man from Huntington Beach has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a young woman in Costa Mesa last week, authorities said Monday.

According to the Costa Mesa Police Department, Oscar Saldivar was taken into custody on Saturday with help from the department’s Special Investigations Unit. Investigators identified Saldivar as the primary suspect in the June 2 killing of 18-year-old Monserrat Colorado, who was also from Huntington Beach.

Colorado was found with multiple gunshot wounds on the sidewalk in the 1500 block of Lukup Lane around 11:10 p.m. First responders provided medical aid at the scene, but she was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

While executing search warrants in Huntington Beach, detectives also recovered a firearm believed to be connected to the case.

Authorities have not released details about the relationship between the victim and the suspect, nor have they shared a possible motive. The Costa Mesa Police Department said the case will be submitted to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office for potential charges.

Saldivar is currently being held on suspicion of murder.
