18-year-old faces Charges after Deadly Pedestrian Crash in St. Louis County

An 18-year-old is facing charges after allegedly striking and killing a pedestrian over the weekend in St. Louis County, then fleeing the scene.

Prosecutors have charged Sebastian Rax Asig with leaving the scene of a fatal accident and driving without a license, according to court documents filed Monday.

The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Midland Boulevard and Brown Road in Sycamore Hills, just east of Overland. Police say Rax Asig struck 56-year-old Tyrone Mark Tipton with a truck and continued driving.

Tipton was transported to a hospital, where he died about an hour later, the St. Louis County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed. Authorities have not yet released information about Tipton’s place of residence.

Investigators were able to track down the vehicle involved in the crash using surveillance footage. The registered owner of the truck informed police that Rax Asig had been behind the wheel at the time of the collision.

According to court records, Rax Asig later admitted in a phone call with police that he struck the pedestrian and left the scene. He was arrested at his home by the Missouri Highway Patrol on Sunday morning.

A judge set his bond at $1,000 cash. It was unclear whether he remained in custody.

The case remains under investigation.
