Harris County, TX – Officials say a 12-year-old child was hit and killed by a car after losing control of his bicycle and falling into the road.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the event took place on the 11900 block of Suburban Road.
Officials on the site said it occurred at 8:40 p.m. Investigators discovered security video from a nearby residence, which showed the child riding his bicycle on the sidewalk. The footage shows what appears to be a dog chasing the toddler.
Shortly after, the child lost control of his bicycle when cycling over a loose area of sand or gravel. According to officials, the boy fell into the traffic and was struck by a black vehicle, believed to be a Chrysler 300 based on auto parts discovered at the scene. The vehicle then left the site.
Nearby residents who had just turned onto the street witnessed the black vehicle running a stop sign in the opposite direction. They later observed the child with the bicycle on the street. They got out and performed CPR on the boy in an attempt to save his life, but he was pronounced dead on the site.
Authorities said they’re looking for a black Chrysler 300. They assume it will have front-end damage based on the parts found at the scene.
According to the sheriff’s office, the car that hit with the child has already left the scene.
